Eric L. Martz, P.E. graduated from West Virginia University in 1994 with a BSCE. Following graduation, he joined Michael Baker Jr., Inc., in the Complex Structures Department in the Coraopolis, PA, office. During this time, Eric was a design engineer for the William H. Harsha Bridge over the Ohio River between Maysville, KY, and Aberdeen, OH. The signature structure is a 2,100-foot-long cable-stayed bridge that was selected for the national Grand Conceptor Award by the American Consulting Engineers Council in 2001. Eric also specializes in the rehabilitation of historic bridges and was the Project Manager for the rehabilitation of the 8th Street Bridge in Allentown, PA, which is a nearly 1,800-foot-long open spandrel concrete arch bridge constructed in 1913.
From 1997 to 2012, Eric assumed positions of increasing responsibility in the Harrisburg, PA, office of Michael Baker, Jr., Inc., leading to Senior Project Manager. In 2013, he joined KCI Technologies, Inc., where he currently serves as the Regional Practice Leader for Transportation Design in Pennsylvania, as well as the Harrisburg, PA, Office Manager. For nearly 30 years, Eric has designed and managed transportation structure projects for PennDOT, the PA Turnpike Commission, and other transportation clients.
Eric has developed and delivered training courses for Steel I-Girder and Field Splice Design, Bridge Safety Inspection, and LRFD Design for Highway Bridge Superstructures, Substructures, and Earth Retaining Structures for both the National Highway Institute and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia.
Eric has enjoyed staying engaged with the WVU CEE Department by presenting annually to the CE 201 class for the last 18 years, and recently by serving as a Practitioner Mentor for the CE 497 Senior Capstone Design course. He is also a member of the WVU CEE Advisory Board. Throughout his career, Eric has held various board and leadership positions with the American Society of Highway Engineers – Harrisburg Section, Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers, and the Central Pennsylvania Engineers Week Council.
