A native of Middlebourne in Tyler County, West Virginia, Jack L. Justice received his BSCE (1960) from West Virginia University. After graduation, he began his engineering career with the West Virginia State Road Commission, working in their Bridge Office in Charleston, WV. In 1968, he joined the Corps of Engineers and later was employed by the Federal Highway Administration in the Pennsylvania Division Office. He was transferred to Baltimore, Maryland in 1973, where he became the Division Bridge Engineer for the states of Maryland and Delaware. In 1976, Mr. Justice was transferred to Charleston, WV with the Federal Highway Administration, where he served as the Division Bridge Engineer and also the Research Engineer until his retirement in 2006.
In 2006, he joined the Bridge staff of Michael Baker in Charleston. During his career, he was involved with the completion of the New River Gorge Bridge and most recently, the Blennerhassett Island Bridge near Parkersburg, WV. In the 30 years prior to his retirement, he and his colleagues at the West Virginia Division of Highway were involved in the review of many major bridges with the State of West Virginia. Mr. Justice also presently serves on the WV Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering Visiting Committee.
He and his wife, Norma, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. They have two children, John and Mary. John is a physician and WVU graduate. Mary is a critical care nurse. They have one grandchild, Joy Justice.
