James Brown earned a BSCE in 1962 and a MSCE in 1964 from WVU. A native of Clarksburg,  Brown has spent 42 years in the constructions industry.

Early work included two interstate highway tunnels, two years in highway and bridge construction, and four years as field engineer at Harrison Power Station.

He later became employed by G.A. Brown & Sons, Inc of Fairmont, directing its operations for 15 years before purchasing the company in 1991.

The firm performs building construction throughout Northern West Virginia, including projects at most of the buildings on the WVU campus.

A member of the Construction Industry Panel of the American Arbitration Association and of the National Society of Professional Engineers, he is a director and past president of both the Construction Employers Association of North Central West Virginia and the Contractors Association of West Virginia.

Brown is a registered Professional Engineer and resides in Taylor County with his wife, Pamela. They are the parents of two married children and have five grandchildren.
