Jennifer Righman McConnell, Ph.D., currently serves as the Bentley Systems Career Development Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the director of the Center for Innovative Bridge Engineering at the University of Delaware. She holds Ph.D. (2005), master’s (2002), and bachelor’s (2000) degrees from West Virginia University.

Dr. McConnell’s area of expertise is structural engineering, with a particular focus on steel bridges and extending the lifespan of aging infrastructure. She has over 20 years of research experience in bridge behavior, laboratory testing, field evaluation, inspection, long-term performance, design, and analytical modeling of bridges.

In particular, her works on steel bridge corrosion and innovative field testing have received national recognitions. Dr. McConnell is an author of numerous academic publications on these topics as well as being actively engaged in technology transfer activities to translate the practical use of her and others’ research into practice.
