John Muth is the Deputy Director for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) in Charlotte, NC.
John received his BS in 1985 in Civil Engineering from WVU. While a graduate student at WVU, he taught Freshman Engineering
He is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina.
In 1998, Muth helped lead the development of the 2025 Transit/Land Use Plan for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg which resulted in public approval of a dedicated sales tax for public transportation. This work led to the formation of the new Transit Department (CATS) within the City of Charlotte.
After joining CATS in 2000, he led the development of the 2025 Corridor System Plan for light rail, commuter rail, streetcar, and bus rapid transit.
From 1988 to 2000, Muth worked with the Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT). From 1984 to 1988, he was with the Boston Consulting firm of Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB)
Muth is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a Fellow in the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
