Onas had been a long time resident of Morgantown, WV. He is a 1967 of West Virginia Institute of Technology with a BSCE. He received an MSCE from WVU in 1968 and was registered as a Professional Engineering in 1974.

Mr. Aliff worked out of state for a national engineering firm for several years prior to joining Triad Engineering in Morgantown in 1977. Mr. Aliff served as president of the company for many years and was a member of the management team that developed the firm from an initial staff of five to more than 200 employees in West Virginia and adjacent states. During his tenure, Triad Engineering earned recognition as a Top 500 Engineering Design firm in the United States by the Engineering News Record. This award is believed to be first for a West Virginia based company.

After retirement from Triad Engineering, Mr. Aliff was actively involved in environmental remediation and redevelopment of the former Sterling faucet plant site. In addition, he started construction companies and provided consulting service to numerous firms.

Mr. Aliff was inducted into the West Virginia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991 and was selected for the 2005 Distinguished Service Award by the WVU Tech Alumni Association.
