Tom Cross graduated from Mannington (WV) High School in 1968. At WVU he majored in Civil Engineering and participated in the Co-op Program with the West Virginia Department of Highways. For five summers, Tom served as an inspector during the construction of I-79 near Morgantown.

Tom graduated from WVU with a BSCE in 1972. Eighteen months later, he graduated from WVU with an MSCE (1973), focusing his coursework in the areas of geotechnical engineering, hydrology, and hydraulics engineering. Tom was a member of Chi Epsilon (Civil Engineering Honorary) and the Sigma Chi social fraternity. During graduate school, Tom also worked in the WVU concrete laboratory performing research associated with non-destructive concrete testing.

In 1973, Tom moved to Atlanta and started working for Law Engineering Testing Company, Inc. (LAW) as a soils engineer. His initial assignments with this employee-owned, national engineering firm included geotechnical engineering for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority and the Atlanta Airport Mid-Field Terminal. In 1977 Tom earned his PE license in Georgia; subsequently, obtaining PE licenses in WV, TN, SC, AL, and FL. In 1981 Tom began his environmental consulting/engineering career with Law Environmental, Inc., a subsidiary of LAW. Tom directed environmental assessment and remediation projects for numerous clients including, GE, FPL, IBM, and Ingersoll Rand Company. As an AVP and Corporate Hazardous Waste Consultant, Tom managed a Program of about 50 engineers, geologists, and support staff performing environmental consulting services across the US. Following his 30+ year career with LAW, Tom worked for AIG Insurance, where he served as a senior environmental consultant, reviewing environmental remediation insurance claims across the nation.

Tom currently lives with his wife Pam (a former Delta Air Lines flight attendant) in Fernandina Beach, FL. He spends much of his time playing golf, hiking, and travelling to worldwide destinations.
