Wadsworth + WVU
A Legacy of Support and Advancement
In honor of an outstanding alumnus and business leader who, along with his wife, endowed the Wadsworth Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.
Maurice “Moe” Wadsworth, a Clarksburg native who earned a degree in civil engineering from WVU in 1951, is one of West Virginia University’s most loyal and esteemed alumni. His dedicated leadership of Gannett Fleming, Inc., in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, helped build the company into one of the leading planning, design, and construction management firms in the nation.
JoAnn, a 1951 psychology graduate from Hagerstown, Maryland, met Moe at WVU and both have been philanthropic supporters since 1976.
Between 2005-2016, the couple established the Maurice A. and JoAnn Wadsworth Distinguished Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the Wadsworth Graduate Fellowship and the Maurice and JoAnn Wadsworth Civil Engineering Faculty Fellowship.
The Department was named on November 8, 2019 by the WVU Board of Governors in honor of the decades of time, talent and treasure invested into the department by the Wadsworths.
